NYSE MatchPoint Rules Approved by SEC

NYSE Euronext (NYSE Euronext: NYX) today announced that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has approved the rules for NYSE MatchPoint, a new, portfolio-based, point-in-time electronic facility of the New York Stock Exchange that matches aggregated orders at predetermined sessions throughout regular hours and after hours of the Exchange. MatchPoint will trade securities listed on all major and regional U.S. stock exchanges. It is expected to begin operation on January 22, 2008.

“NYSE MatchPoint is a major step forward in our broad initiative to provide investors with a choice of how to transact trades at the New York Stock Exchange,” said Lawrence Leibowitz, Head of U.S. Products, NYSE Euronext. “It’s unique in the exchange environment due to its portfolio-based approach. By offering MatchPoint and our recently-announced joint venture with BIDS, w e’re providing investors two new, complementary ways to trade block orders.”

“NYSE MatchPoint will leverage the neutrality of the New York Stock Exchange with open connectivity and comprehensive regulatory infrastructure to provide a nondisplayed trading environment unlike any other,” said James G. Ross, Vice President, NYSE MatchPoint. “Both portfolio-based and single block trade investors will each find immense added value in this new, centralized facility of the Exchange.”

The first NYSE MatchPoint matching session will be an after hours match at 4:45 p.m. that uses the official closing price of the primary market. Soon, matching sessions will be established during regular hours of the Exchange. The first will take place at 9:45 a.m. , followed by matching sessions at 10 a.m. , 11 a.m. , 12 noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. T he price of the intraday match will be the mid-point of the NBBO that is randomly selected during a one-minute pricing period. An investor may enter one portfolio of buy and sell/short orders, a single block order or multiple portfolios of buy and sell /short orders.

Investors that rely on index-based or model-driven trading and investment strategies will find NYSE MatchPoint’s portfolio-based capabilities to be a very effective trading tool. In addition, NYSE MatchPoint’s non-displayed, point-in-time approach aggregates individual block orders and increases the depth of the liquidity pool and enhances the opportunity of a natural match.

Participation in crossing services has grown significantly in the past couple of years, so the NYSE MatchPoint initiative presents a sizeable opportunity. The new NYSE crossing service is uniquely positioned over existing offerings given the combination of sophisticated portfolio-based trading technology (including cash constraints), competitive pricing, and exchange neutrality. NYSE MatchPoint is expected to attract broad participation from broker/dealers, as well as institutions and hedge funds through broker sponsorship.

NYSE Selects HP to Bring Speed to Online Stock Trading System

HP today announced that the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) has selected HP servers to improve the efficiency of its online stock trading system, the NYSE Hybrid MarketSM.

In a business environment where milliseconds matter, the NYSE Hybrid Market is relying on rack-based HP ProLiant DL585 servers, ProLiant BL685c server blades and Integrity NonStop servers to grow its business by ensuring that its online trading transactions occur with the speed and accuracy customers expect.

“We’re proud that the largest stock exchange in the world chose HP to improve the performance of its IT architecture,” said Paul Miller, vice president, Enterprise Servers and Storage, HP. “HP technology is ideally suited to serve as the backbone for the NYSE Hybrid Market’s IT infrastructure, which routinely handles more than 500 million messages a day.”

HP server technologies are helping the NYSE Hybrid Market adhere to the Securities and Exchange Commission-governed Regulation National Markets System, which is a series of initiatives designed to modernize and strengthen the national market system for equity securities.

HP ProLiant servers deliver the processing power required to manage daily trading volumes that peak or spike at any given time without any execution delays. The servers have reduced the average trade-execution turnaround time from seconds to milliseconds. In addition, HP technology allows customers using the Hybrid Market to automatically trade up to 1 million shares in a single order – up from 1,099. That equals a potential 900-fold improvement in trade volume, which can help improve the NYSE’s bottom line.

“During the past several years, the requirements of investors and securities companies have significantly changed,” said Steve Rubinow, chief information officer, NYSE. “Although order commitment reliability is certainly paramount, users want a trading platform with flawless execution and transaction speed. HP is helping us deliver it all through these dependable server platforms.”

In addition to assisting with its core trading infrastructure, which has been driven by NonStop servers for nearly 30 years, HP has supplied the NYSE with HP StorageWorks XP12000 storage arrays to run the critical applications that keep the trading floor up and running. The arrays connect to the ProLiant DL585, BL685c and Integrity NonStop servers to ensure real-time data is always available.

HP also will use its expertise in Linux to help the NYSE deploy a more flexible and cost-effective operating system for application development, deployment and maintenance.

More information on HP ProLiant servers is available at www.hp.com/go/proliant, on HP BladeSystem at www.hp.com/go/bladesystem, and on HP Integrity NonStop at www.hp.com/go/nonstop.

Based on NYSE Arca’s comprehensive matching technology, NYSE Bonds provides investors with transparent and highly efficient order executions for the corporate debt securities of all NYSE listed companies.

About Euronext N.V.
Euronext N.V., a subsidiary of NYSE Euronext, has successfully integrated local markets across Europe to provide users with a unified market that is broad, liquid and cost effective. Euronext is the largest central order book cash market in Europe and the second largest derivatives exchange in the world, by value of business traded.

Following the initial three-way merger of the local exchanges of Amsterdam , Brussels and Paris , Euronext acquired the London-based derivatives market LIFFE and merged with the Portuguese exchange in 2002. Euronext’s unique business model incorporates the individual strengths and assets of each local market and has been implemented on all of Euronext’s markets, covers technological integration, the harmonisation of market rules and the regulatory framework. The implementation of Euronext’s horizontal model designed to generate synergies has proved that the most successful way to merge European exchanges is to apply global vision at a local level. Euronext’s IT integration was completed in 2004, when a four-year migration plan resulted in harmonised IT platforms for cash trading (NSC®) and derivatives (LIFFE CONNECT®). As a result, every market participant now has a single point of access to trading. Euronext’s IT structure was rationalized in 2005 with the creation of Atos Euronext Market Solutions (AEMS), an IT services-related vehicle between Euronext and Atos Origin which is now a leading global provider of technology services to Euronext and other global capital markets.
