The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT®), one of the world’s leading derivatives exchanges, today announced that total volume for May 2007 was 92,312,946 contracts, establishing a new record for total Exchange volume and exceeding total volume from May 2006 by 16 percent. May’s average daily volume (ADV) was 4,196,043 contracts, an increase of 16 percent compared with May 2006. The ADV total for May 2007 is the second highest in CBOT history, surpassed only by the 4.5 million contracts traded each day during February 2007.
ADV on the Exchange’s e-cbot® electronic trading platform was 3,349,304 contracts in May 2007, a 31 percent increase compared with May 2006. Year-to-date, CBOT ADV is 3,746,452 contracts, up 17 percent over the same period in 2006.
